4 TREND COLORS FOR SPRING 2023 AND HOW TO WEAR THEM

Spring hasn’t officially arrived, but if you have been dreaming about warmer weather and some sunshine, these trendy hues are a great place to start.

1. Lavender

This season's runways were dominated by shades of violet and lilac. Lavender might not be Pantone's Color of the Year for 2023 - Viva Magenta - but I'd argue this hue is even chicer and a lot easier to wear.

Bright whites or tonal colors are the perfect pair for lavender. Add ballerinas or a loafer and a structured bag for a modern look.

How to wear it in cooler weather

Pair lavender and darker tones of purple with denim, black, gray, and beige. Or go for a modern look, adding another street-style favorite: green!

2. Luscious Red

Red shades were prevalent on the Spring 2023 runway, mostly worn top-to-toe in suits, dresses, and hosiery.

Bright whites are a great addition to red and will give the look a fresh feel. If you are new to color, try using red for your accessories.

How to wear it in cooler weather

Pair red with darker tones of the same shade, orange or magenta.

3. Powder blue

The shades of blue seen on the 2023 runway are darker and more muted than the baby blue that dominated fashion a few years ago. The neutral tone is seasonless and minimalist, making it a versatile choice for your wardrobe.

Powder blue looks amazing paired with light blue or gray denim and a white t-shirt or blouse. Add mocha pumps for spring days at the office.

For colder days, I like to pair powder blue with warmer shades like mocha, beige, or brown.

4. Lime green

Different shades of green ranging from lime to neon popped up on all the major runways this season. The spring/summer '23 runway shows for Fendi, Michael Kors, Givenchy, and Bottega Veneta all featured green looks, ranging from gowns and suits to separates, proving the color to be surprisingly versatile.

I like to pair lime green with white. It's a fail-safe, whether you're going to work or on vacation.

Pair lime green with tonal colors like gray, navy, and black, or add to an outfit of light denim.

PAIRING COLORS USING COLOR THEORY

I agree that these colors can be challenging at first glance, but with color theory (and a bit of practical knowledge) you can easily incorporate them into your wardrobe. Let's recap two elements of color theory that are useful to understand, so you can experiment with your outfits.

Analogous (aka Tonal): Analogous colors are next to each other on the color wheel and share a common hue. By pairing these types of colors, you create a tonal outfit, where all the colors are a similar tone.

Complimentary (aka Contrasting): Complementary colors are opposite each other on the color wheel and can make for a beautiful power clash with maximum contrast.

Alternatively, you can always mix these colors with neutrals. Neutrals like beige, brown, black, navy blue, and white usually pair well and are a great base for working with brighter colors.
