5 REASONS THE CLUTTER IN YOUR CLOSET IS KEEPING YOU STUCK

Get your closet clutter under control, and your style and mindset will improve, too.

We all have those moments where we look into our closets and wonder where all the clutter came from. It does seem to accumulate over time, and we find ourselves asking, "Do I really need all this stuff?"

While many people assume that clutter only affects the physical appearance of a space, it can also have a significant impact on your mindset and overall well-being. Clearing clutter is actually an act of self-love because cluttered spaces keep you stuck — inside and out.

In this blog post, we will explore five reasons why clutter affects you and your mindset, even if you have enough closet space, and why you should invest time in detoxing your closet and getting rid of clothes that do not serve you.

1. Clutter costs you time.

One of the most obvious ways that clutter affects you is by costing you time. When you have a cluttered space, it can take you much longer to find what you're looking for, and you may even forget where you put certain items altogether. The time you waste in front of your closet, trying to figure out what to wear, leads to frustration, which impacts your mindset and overall productivity. Just image how your day would unfold if you could spend that time sipping your favorite coffee or reading the newspaper instead.

2. Clutter causes procrastination.

When you have a cluttered space, it can be challenging to focus on the task at hand. Instead of being productive, you may find yourself putting things off or avoiding certain activities altogether — like finally tossing those old sweatpants with holes in them because you know you will never wear them again. You end up telling yourself: Nah, I’ll do it later, or I’ll decide later, but end up feeling overwhelmed because you will go through the same thought process over and over again. By decluttering your closet, you can eliminate distractions and focus on the things that matter most.

3. Clutter increases stress.

Overflowing closets with nothing to wear do not lead to ZEN-like mornings. They lead to closet meltdowns, and frantically trying on clothes, leaving piles on the floor and working up a sweat, before even having set a foot in the gym. Just thinking about this raises my stress levels and surely doesn’t lead to a productive start to the day — and you probably won’t feel like going to the gym later on either.

4. Clutter leads to decision fatigue.

In addition to undoubtedly creating an instantly recognizable brand, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg both wore the same turtleneck sweater and T-shirt every day — for the purpose of avoiding decision fatigue! Decision fatigue refers to the tiredness and decreased ability to make good decisions that can happen when you have to make a lot of choices over a period of time. Standing in front of an overflowing closet in the morning, choosing what clothes to wear, can therefore cost you a precious amount of energy.

When we make too many decisions, we start to feel mentally exhausted and it can be difficult to think clearly. This cluttered mindset can spill over into other areas of your life, making it difficult to make a decision and move forward. By decluttering your closet, you can reduce the number of choices you have to make and clear your mind.

5. Clutter keeps you stuck in the past.

Finally, clutter can keep you living in the past. When you hold onto items that no longer serve you, you're holding onto memories and emotions that prevent you from moving forward. You should be dressing for the body you have and the woman you are. You should dress for your present and future — not your past. In order to make room for new opportunities, the clutter in your closet has to go.

In conclusion, clutter can have a significant impact on your mindset and overall well-being, even if you have enough closet space. By decluttering and detoxing your closet, you can reduce stress, increase productivity, and create a more organized and calming environment. So, take some time to evaluate your space, let go of what no longer serves you, and create a more intentional and clutter-free life.
